ABOUT Cliff Sampson
Cliff Sampson’s origins are in Perth Western Australia born on a dairy farm Cliff developed a love of the outdoors & was soon in tune with nature. Cliff never developed a passion for school & all that it involved so at 15 he headed to the far north of WA. Once there the boy from the city became a true boy of the bush. His passion for nature saw him become an expert horseman & he was soon in the saddle all day, mustering cattle & sheep his nights around the camp fire listening to the tall tales & true of the old bushies. Fifteen years on saw Cliff return to Perth & the city life, a challenge for a now man with few city living skills. Never one to be daunted Cliff honed his skills & turned to the thing he loved most horses. Before long he was a sort after Farrier working in the racing industry, it was not long before he became a Master Farrier which resulted in him participating & winning many competitions which involved making horse shoes from flat metal. The lure of the metal became an absolute passion & horse shoes became candle holders, wine racks & then sculptures. Cliff’s natural ability to create any number of creatures full of movement life & fun was soon obvious & so Cliff the sculptor was born. Seven years ago Cliff & the love of his life Avis moved to the magnificent south coast of NSW, into the hub of a thriving arts community. This move has seen a monumental change in Cliff’s work his passion for metal movement & art coming to the fore, each of his creations have a life of their own. Each day finds Cliff in his beloved shed forge fired up, anvil singing it’s a life he loves & it shows in his creations. A journey you can now share on this site.

Material
We try where possible to use recycled materials however this is becoming more difficult with the price of scrap metal being almost the same as new. Copper and mild steel are my favourites both are great to work with having plenty of flow and movement.
Technique
We have a well equipped workshop with a large array of tools and machinery which assists in producing the best possible result. Arnie an old spring hammer is my right hand man there is nothing more satisfying than watching him flatten a piece of 50mlx50ml in a matter of seconds. Saves the arm!
